JUST FOR YOU, ANNA

Anna wants an update about my life, so I suppose on this beautiful Martin Luther King, Jr. day, I'll take some time away from my Super Mario Galaxy marathon and update. Really though, today is a beautiful day. I woke up around 11am to the sound of what I thought was shoveling, and I thought, well, it's finally snowing, and about time since it's WINTER. So I look outside, and it's bright and sunny and not an inch of snow in sight. Turns out they're doing construction work around the apartment complex. But this is very strange indeed - northeast Ohio winters are supposed to be brutal! Students are supposed to be fighting the blizzard-like conditions to walk to class! But it's just a nice fall day. I'm happy.

This semester I only have classes on Monday through Wednesday, which is very nice. And including the holiday today, I had a 5-day weekend! Unfortunately I spent it with a horrendous... cold? Flu? I feel like I had one thing last Wednesday and ended up with something completely different by Sunday. Saturday and Sunday was spent hugging boxes of tissues and chugging Theraflu, and of course I feel good enough today to be able to go to class tomorrow. :boo: The funny thing is I still worked at Chipotle through all this, and probably spread the disease to the hundreds of people who came through the line. REVENGE FOR ANNOYING CUSTOMERS! No really, I feel kind of bad. But I really needed the money, and they needed the help. It was an unfortunate situation.

Speaking of work, I have a new job! Over winter break, my dad and I went to San Francisco to visit my third aunt and uncle, whom we rarely see because usually we go to Los Angeles. Well one of my cousins, Raymond, was also there at the time, and I don't feel like I've met him before - probably because he's the oldest in the Chiu family, and I'm the youngest. He's only 13 years younger than my dad, how bizarre is that! Anyway, his wife Lucy runs a company selling educational games teaching children how to read Chinese. Right now she has vocabulary cards that have a Chinese character on one side, and a photo depicting the word on the other. And voila! I am the photographer. It's an interesting job trying to figure out how to portray words like "big" and "small", "he" and "she", and since I'm minoring in commercial photography, this is totally up my alley. I think in the future I'll also be doing some graphic designing for the company. I finally feel like I'm moving ahead! But I'll stay at Chipotle for the free food and tips. ^_^

What else is new - I lost my final hamster, Peanut. I have officially lost 11 hamsters in the span of 2 months. Ben is right - raising hamsters was a horrible chapter of my life, and I need to just put it behind me. (But they were so cute.)There are times when I feel tempted to buy another one, but I immediately put all my cages and accessories up for sale on Amazon, so hopefully they will sell quickly and I can just go back to watering my basil plant. I'll just wait for the day when I can finally own dogs and cats.

Well it is a new year, and of course I always start it off by trying to better myself. My main goal, which I mentioned already, is to improve my mind, and I have a long list of books that should last me throughout the year. My first book is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I wonder why this one is such a classic, but everyone knows more about Tom Sawyer? Guess I'll find out. I'm also trying to eat a lot healthier (more raw foods, less canned), and stop slouching so much. For one, it doesn't help my whiplash, and two, I'm terrified of turning into one of those old Asian ladies who are 4 feet tall because they're permanently bent over. Not hot.

My last goal - to travel and visit people as much as possible. I already have a list - John in Chicago, Sarah in Kansas, Jackie in Cincinnati, maybe Ashley in Texas? I also wouldn't mind hitting up some big cities - SF again, LA, DC, NYC. Or Canadia? Who wants to make a trip to Canada! My friend Sarah Renn was thinking about making a 48-state road trip to find the best of a certain kind of food (we were thinking beef noodle soup), and if she's still up for that, well there goes my summer because I'm not passing up an opportunity like that. Actually, if it falls through... would anyone be willing to do it with me? I'll be taking applications now.

Well I suppose that's about all the time I feel like talking away from gaming, so until the next time Anna demands an update, have a nice day!

One More Lap Around the Sun

Happy new year! We got a big year ahead of us - it's election time AND we get 366 days! How exciting is that. Well the only resolution I made for 2007 was to floss on a regular basis, and I actually kept up with it. :cue applause: So my goal for 2008 is to read more. And not quick reads like blogs and magazines; I want to read more classics, more scientific or academic articles... I want to improve my intellect. To sum it up: 2008 = GET SMART. Also, Get Smart the movie should be coming out this year, that's another thing to look forward too ^_^

If anyone has a similar goal, here's a good article to start things off: 100 Things We Didn't Know in 2007 from the BBC.

Good luck with your resolutions or whatever you traditionally do to start the year off, and happy new year!
